India will host the men's section of the hockey World Cup in 2018, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) announced late on Thursday night.
The decision to award the men's event to India, to be held most-probably at New Delhi from December 1-16 in 2018, was taken by the FIH's executive board in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Thursday. England will host the women's tournament from July 7-21, 2018.
The World Cup in 2018 will see an expanded field with 16 teams competing in both men's and women's events. India last hosted the World Cup in New Delhi in 2010 while the next edition will be held next year in The Hague, Netherlands in the first two weeks of June.
