Suiting down!

The specialized polyurethane bodysuits were banned by FINA a year ago and most had expected the numerous records of the era to stand due to its absence. The performance-enhancing suits saw a flurry of records being set between 2008 and ‘09 with 43 being broken at the 2009 worlds in Rome. Two records were broken in Shanghai. Ridiculous, no?

New stud on the block

Ryan Lochte, the 26-year-old Floridian, emerged as a London favourite after his unbelievable run in Shanghai that included, among other things, relegating compatriot Michael Phelps to second-spot more than once. Lochte won five gold medals and one bronze besides breaking his own world-record in the 200m individual medley (IM). And this is a man who survived solely on a McDonald's diet during the 2008 Beijing Olympics!
