Pistol shooter Rahi Sarnobat stayed firm to claim gold in the 25m women’s sports pistol event at the ISSF World Cup in Chongwon, South Korea, on Friday.
The competition was held according to the new ISSF rules, in which preliminary round scores are not carried forward to the finals.
Rahi, who entered the semifinals with a total score of 585, sealed a berth by scoring 15 points.
In the final, she edged past Kyeongac Kim 8-6 to win gold. The Korean had topped the field with 16 points, but had to settle for silver in the nail-biting contest.
With this win, Rahi joined the elite club of World Cup gold winners Anjali Bhagwat, Gagan Narang, Sanjeev Rajput, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Ronjan Sodhi and Manavjit Singh Sandhu.
“My focus enabled me to win gold,” said Rahi after winning the title.
Adding to the kitty
In 2011, she had won bronze at the World Cup in the US and the gold on Friday added to her kitty of medals.
It was disappointment for Anisa Sayyed, who finished 21st with a score of 572. National champion Sushma Singh scored a 570 to finish 26th. Indian shooters failed to make an impression in the women’s 10m air rifle event.
