Due to the resignation, the IOA elections on November 25 could see another postponement. Quraishi, a former chief election commissioner, resigned saying, he didn't want to continue because the IOA had initially accepted the government guidelines on age and tenure, but later backtracked. "My conscience doesn't allow me to continue," he said.

IOA acting president, VK Malhotra, said in a statement that a new chairman would be appointed soon.
