Saina moves ahead in super series

World No. 6 Saina Nehwal beat European Circuit Finals champion, Ella Diehl of Russia 21-13, 23-21 in the second round to advance in the Singapore Super Series.

Earlier, the top seed had an easy opening match against Malaysia’s Mew Choo Wong, who she had met earlier in the final of the India Open Grand Prix in Chennai. Saina downed the Malaysian 21-8, 21-5.

It took Saina 37 minutes to wrap up the proceedings against Diehl. The ace Indian shuttler opted for long rallies in both the games. Out of 78 rallies Saina played in the match, she won 44 as opposed to 34 for Diehl.

In men’s singles, India’s Gurusaidutt, winner of the India Open, went down to Rajiv Ouseph of England in straight games, while sixth seed Simon Santoso of Indonesia thumped world No. 19 Chetan Anand 21-17, 21-15. P. Kashyap beat third seed Tien Minh Nguyen of Vietnam 23-21, 21-18.
