Sindhu bows out, saina in All England pre-quarters
Indian shuttler PV Sindhu went down in the second round of women’s singles to German fourth seed Juliane Schenk here at the All England Open Badminton Championships Thursday.
The World No.16 lost 17-21, 14-21 in 39 minutes on court No.2 of The National Indoor Arena in the Super Series Premier tournament. Sindhu took off well in the first game and led the World No.4 5-1. However, Schenk fought back but the Indian managed to keep the lead till the end of the game where the 30-year-old German used all her experience to bag four straight points and the game from 17-all. The Hyderabadi started well again in the second game but lost the lead quickly and never looked to gain it back as Juliane was completely on court. From 8-all, she kept on extending the lead till she won the game and match.
Saina Nehwal , on the other hand, had to sweat it out to beat Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand 21-8, 18-21 and reach pre-quarterfinals.
Kashyap in last 16
Top Indian male shuttler Parupalli Kashyap has booked his place in the pre-quarterfinals of singles event after notching up a straight games win over Jen Hao Hsu of Chinese Taipei.
World number nine Kashyap won his first round match 21-17, 21-18 in 43 minutes at the National Indoor Arena. He now runs into seventh seed Kenichi Tago of Japan. Sourabh Verma, who made came through the qualifiers, was the other Indian who made it to the round of 16 in the men's singles event.
Verma beat Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka of Indonesia 10-21, 21-14, 24-22 in a hard-fought 59-minute duel. He now faces eighth seed Tien Minh Nguyen of Vietnam in the pre-uarters.
