Six shortlisted for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna

Guangzhou Asian Games gold-medallist, double-trap shooter Ronjan Sodhi, the highest goal-scorer in the Olympic hockey qualifier, Sandeep Singh, tennis star Somdev Devvarman, the first Indian shuttler to qualify for two events in the Olympics, Jwala Gutta, marksman Sanjeev Rajput and young boxing sensation Vikas Krishan have been recommended for the country's highest sporting honour, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna for 2011.

Guangzhou Asian Games gold-medallist, double-trap shooter Ronjan Sodhi, the highest goal-scorer in the Olympic hockey qualifier, Sandeep Singh, tennis star Somdev Devvarman, the first Indian shuttler to qualify for two events in the Olympics, Jwala Gutta, marksman Sanjeev Rajput and young boxing sensation Vikas Krishan have been recommended for the country's highest sporting honour, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna for 2011.

Vikas, who became the second Indian boxer after Vijender Singh to win a World Championship medal, has also applied for the Arjuna Award.

Four-time Winter Olympian, Shiva Keshavan, player of the tournament in the hockey Olympics qualifiers, Sardar Singh, archery World Cup winner, Deepika Kumari, shooter Annu Raj Singh and wrestler Narsingh Yadav are among the 81 sportspersons whose names have been recommended for the Arjuna.

For the highest coaching honour, the Dronacharya Award, and Dhyanchand Award, the ministry has received 55 nominations each.
