Tiger Woods teed off Thursday to open his first round at the 74th Masters, marking the world number one golfer's return to competition after a five-month layoff in the wake of a sex scandal.
After being introduced to the welcoming applause of thousands gathered around the first tee at Augusta National Golf Club, Woods swatted a good tee shot down the middle of the fairway to open his quest for a fifth Masters title.
Woods has won 14 major crowns as he chases the all-time record of 18 majors won by Jack Nicklaus.
Woods had not played in an event in 144 days since winning the Australian Masters after a sex scandal that saw him admit adultery on wife Elin while more than a dozen women claimed they had sexual affairs with the now-humbled hero.
