Bihar officer arrested for raping minor daughter

The Patna police, in Patna on Saturday, arrested a senior Bihar administrative service officer for repeatedly raping his 15-year-old daughter over a period of time. Avinash Kumar reports.

A senior Bihar government officer has been arrested for allegedly raping his 15-year-old daughter over a period of time.

Patna SSP Manu Maharaj said senior deputy collector in revenue department Akhilesh Kumar Singh was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother. “A medical test confirmed she had been raped and suffered internal injuries,” the SSP told reporters.

He said the victim, a student of a leading girls’ school in Patna, had given a statement that Kumar used to rape her frequently and threatened her with dire consequences.

Kumar, however, denied the allegations, and claimed his wife and daughter were mentally unsound, for which they were undergoing treatment.
