Special package for Tharu tribals in Bihar

The Bihar government has sanctioned a Rs 125 crore special welfare package for ensuring integrated development of Tharu tribals, mostly residing in and around Valmikinagar Tiger Reserve Forest area, Bagha, Ramnagar, Dhanaha, Mainatand and Sikta in West Champaran district.

The state cabinet, which met in Patna on Monday before Chief Minister Nitish Kumar embarked on his first phase of the Vikas Yatra from Bagha in West Champaran, sanctioned the amount for executing various welfare schemes, Principal Secretary (cabinet) Girish Shankar said.

Special Industrial Iraining Institutes (ITIs), besides ten residential schools five each for girls and boys, community centres and several other welfare projects were proposed to be implemented in the district, Shankar said.

A special committee headed by the state's development commissioner would soon be set up to monitor and review the works to be carried out for implemnting these schemes, he added.
