Top NDA leaders among 8,000 held in Bihar

About 8,000 people, including top NDA leaders like BJP general secretary Ravishankar Prasad, Bihar BJP president C P Thakur and his JD(U) counterpart Vijay Choudhary, were arrested here while enforcing the nation-wide bandh against the hike in petroleum products.

About 8,000 people, including top NDA leaders like BJP general secretary Ravishankar Prasad, Bihar BJP president C P Thakur and his JD(U) counterpart Vijay Choudhary, were arrested here while enforcing the nation-wide bandh against the hike in petroleum products.

JD(U) Rajya Sabha members Shivanand Tiwari and Upendra Kushwaha were arrested when they along with hundreds of supporters blocked the busy Dakbungalow Road crossing here, official sources said.

The leaders were whisked away in a bus to a camp jail at Gardanibagh where they would be detained till Monday evening.

The bandh remained peaceful and about 8,000 people were arrested from different parts of the state for disrupting train services and blocking movement of vehicular traffic, Additional Director General (HQ) P K Thakur said.

In Muzaffarpur, JD(U) Rajya Sabha member Anil Sahni, JD(U) MLA Vilat Paswan, besides several NDA supporters were taken into preventive custody, they said.

Legislators, including Shivaji Rai were also arrested from Motihari.

JD(U) LS member from Nalanda Kaushalendra Kumar along with his several supporters was arrested from Biharsharif during the bandh, the sources said.
