Ganesh Chaturthi 2020: Devotees celebrate Lord Ganesha’s birth across India

Ganesh Chaturthi is the annual celebration of the birth of Lord Ganesha. His devotees often refer to him as the ‘remover of obstacles’ but He is also known to place them in your path, if He thinks you will benefit from it. The son of Goddess Parvathi, Lord Ganesh, is also known as the God of new beginnings, and the symbol of wisdom, writing, travel, commerce, and good fortune. The ten-day celebration for Ganesh Chaturthi commenced on August 22. The celebrations of this auspicious occasion include people from all over the country making offerings of modak, shrikhand, etc. at temples and special mandals decorated for Ganhesh Chaturthi. On the last day of the festival, Lord Ganesha’s statue is immersed in the water, which is known as Ganpati Visarjan. Devotees rejoice, chanting ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya, as they bid farewell to Him.
