Photo: Authorities step-up as crowds throng Delhi markets amid Covid-19
Markets in Delhi are full of shoppers ahead of Diwali despite a surge in daily cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). On November 11, Delhi reported 8,593 fresh Covid-19 cases—the highest figure recorded in the capital until now. The coronavirus disease has already infected over 450,000 people in the city and taken more than 7,000 lives. Delhi saw a surge in the number of cases over the fortnight, recording over 5,000 cases each day except on a Sunday. Understandably, the rush in markets during the festive season has contributed to Delhi’s Covid-19 tally. HT conducted spot checks in different parts of the city to check whether social distancing norms and mask hygiene are being followed and questioned the authorities on how they plan to address the problem.
