Sunil Dutt started out with radio and was hugely popular on the Hindi Service of Radio Ceylon, which was the oldest radio station in South Asia.

Dutt was one of the major stars of Hindi Cinema in the late 1950s and 1960s and continued to star in many successful films like Sadhna (1958), Sujata (1959), Mujhe Jeene Do (1963), Khandaan (1965) and Padosan (1967).

Sunil Dutt was last seen in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003) alongside his son Sanjay Dutt. He died of a heart attack in his sleep. After his demise, Dutt was honoured with the Phalke Ratna Award by the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy in 2005.
