The Parliament convened for the fifth day for the budget session on Monday. In the Rajya Sabha, BJP national president Amit Shah, a first-time member, delivered his maiden speech in the house. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present in the house during the session. Three new Members of Parliament are sworn in. Karan Singh Yadav (Alwar), Raghu Sharma (Ajmer) and Sajda Ahmed (Uluberia) take oath in Lok Sabha. (PTI)

The Supreme Court on Monday told khap panchayats not to be the “conscience keepers of society”, again asking them to desist from interfering in the marriage of two consenting adults. The observation was made by a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra that is hearing a plea seeking a ban on khap panchayats and also guidelines to stop “honour killings”. FSSAI, the country’s food safety regulator has asked states to roll out a project to ensure that devotees are served safe prasad at places of worship. Blissful Hygienic Offering to God, or BHOG, is an initiative to ensure that the food safety in places of worship. A door of a mosque in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district was set ablaze in an attempt to disrupt the communal harmony in the area singed by violence on Republic Day during the ‘Tiranga Yatra’ taken out by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) after which one person was killed and many injured, police said. Senior district and police officials rushed to the mosque in Ganjdundwara and pacified the angry residents. (PTI File)
