The Ghazipur landfill in New Delhi is on course to rise higher than the Taj Mahal in the next year, becoming a symbol for what the UN considers the world’s most polluted capital. Ghazipur was opened in 1984 and reached its capacity in 2002 but the city’s detritus has kept on arriving. Celebrated chef Jiggs Kalra, who earned epithets like ‘Czar of Indian Cuisine’ and ‘Taste Maker to the Nation’, passed away on Tuesday in Gurugram. He was 72. He was unwell for the past few weeks, and passed away at a hospital, a source close to his family told news agency IANS. (HT Archive)

Union health minister Harsh Vardhan said on Tuesday the Centre will give all support to the government in Kerala, where a 23-year old man has been tested positive for the Nipah virus. Another man was shifted to an isolation ward of a private hospital in Ernakulam as four others were kept under observation. A total of 86 people are under observation so far. (PTI)

Nine people have been injured and more than 1,000 left homeless in thunderstorms and flood caused by heavy rainfall in Tripura since the past 72 hours. According to a report released by State Emergency Operation Centre on Monday evening, 1,746 people have taken shelter in 12 camps and nine people were injured between June 1 to June 3. All the people were from West Tripura and Sepahijala districts of the state. (ANI)

Eight climbers believed to be dead on a Himalayan mountain “knowingly risked” their lives by changing plans without permission, an Indian official said Tuesday. The group, led by British climber Martin Moran, had been given permission to scale Nanda Devi.
