Photos: At 86,500, India’s Covid-19 tally races past China
Coronavirus cases in India have gone up to 86,508 as of May 16 according to date published by the covid19india.org and the worldometers coronavirus tracker. The country has lost 2,760 people to the pandemic so far. From a slow start in April in terms of testing, India has now reached testing levels of around 1,540 people per million of its population, much higher than the 94.5 per million population it was testing in late March. The government has also announced an economic stimulus package to ameliorate the impact of lockdown resulting from the coronavirus on people’s lives and livelihoods.
