Photos: Muslims across the world celebrate Eid al-Adha, the 'Festival of Sacrifice' amid pandemic

Muslims across the world are observing the annual festival of Eid al-Adha or Eid-ul-Adha, the 'Festival of Sacrifice,' on Tuesday in the shadow of the pandemic. It commemorates the willingness of biblical patriarch Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael and during the period Muslims distribute food to the poor.

The festival, also known as Greater Eid or Eid Qurban or Qurban Bayarami, is celebrated on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Zul Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic or lunar calendar. It marks the end of the annual pilgrimage or Hajj to the Saudi holy city of Mecca and is celebrated in remembrance of Abraham's readiness to sacrifice his son to God.(AFP)
