40-year-old Pune man publicly molests woman on footpath

A man was booked for outraging the modesty of a woman on a footpath in Akurdi area of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) area on Thursday morning. The suspect was identified as Sagar Bhimrao Paramane, 40, a resident of Bijlinagar in Chinchwad.
The 29-year-old complainant works as a nurse in a private hospital in the area. The incident happened on a footpath near Kalbhor public parking around 11 am when the complainant was on her way to work. The suspect, who had called out to her, grabbed her before touching her inappropriately. The startled nurse pushed him away. He then tried to grab her neck, according to her complaint.
The onlookers confronted the suspect and thrashed him. “We have spoken to the suspect’s wife and mother. He will undergo a medical examination as well. Though he has no police records, we came to know that he has blood pressure problem,” said Sachin Suryavanshi, police sub inspector of Nigdi police station.
Suryavanshi, who is investigating the case, said that Paramane, who is working as an independent construction contractor, may be suffering from a mental condition. The suspect is also the father of a son.
The man was arrested and booked under Sections 354 (sexual harassment), 354(a)(making sexually coloured remarks) (b)(assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe) (d) (stalking) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Nigdi police station.
