Bangladeshi, four others arrested for cheating people seeking US dollars in Pune

The five were arrested in a case of cheating filed by a man. The five men made the complainant believe that they were in possession of 1,210 bills of $20. In exchange for the dollars, the complainant paid ₹90,000 and received paper cuttings from the five.

Five persons, including a Bangladeshi national, were arrested by the Pune police on Monday for cheating a man seeking to buy US dollars.

The five persons were identified as Onik Faqrul Shaikh, 29, a native of Dhaka and a resident of Delhi; Nahid Amin Rehman, 26, a resident of Kolkata; Hafizul alias Yamin Refikul Sardar, 23 and Samon Attiyar Khalifa, 31, both residents of 26 Pargana area of West Bengal and Shahid alias Saudul Ubel Shaikh, 28, of Delhi. The five were living in a rented house in Gondhalenagar area of Hadapsar.

The five were arrested in a case of cheating filed by a man. The five men made the complainant believe that they were in possession of 1,210 bills of $20. In exchange for the dollars, the complainant paid ₹90,000 and received paper cuttings from the five. A case under Sections 406 and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Hadapsar police station.

They were produced in a local court and remanded to police custody on Tuesday. The five men were arrested while being in possession of 104 American dollars, ₹25,000 in cash, five mobile phones and a bundle of papers wrapped in a cloth, collectively worth ₹70,000.
