Child sustains burn marks while playing in Pune, unidentified person booked

A two-year-old child of a labourer was burnt by an unidentified person while he was playing, on Sunday.

A case in the matter was registered against an unidentified person at Khadki police station on Tuesday. The child was identified as Viraj Thorat. His father, Sunny Thorat, 22, filed a complaint in the matter.

The incident happened at around 9.45pm on Sunday when Viraj was playing in front of his house in lane number five near Patil estate in Buddha Vihar area of Shivajinagar, Pune. When the incident happened, his father was at work, while his mother was in the house .

Viiraj sustained burn marks on his left thigh, sole of his right foot and palm of his right hand, according to the police. The child is undergoing treatment at Sassoon general hospital.

"The doctor said he will be discharged tomorrow (Thursday). He has injuries on his neck as well. The injuries look black and blue, like that of an assault, but doctors confirmed that they are burn marks," said police sub-inspector Amir Gore of Khadki police station, who is investigating the case.

The unidentified person was booked under Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
