Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Monday, relaxed the norms for regularising unauthorised constructions in the Pimpri-Chinchwad twin township. The state government has also decided to empower Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporation (PCMC), by giving it the authority to charge a fee for regularising unauthorised constructions.
On Monday, Fadnavis was in the industrial town to inaugurate the stone laying ceremony of the memorial building for the revolutionary Chapekar brothers in Chinchwad. After the function, while addressing residents, Fadnavis said,"Staying true to our election campaign promise, we had introduced a scheme for authorising illegal constructions built before December 31, 2015, according to guidelines issued by the state government. But the response to the scheme was very poor because of strict norms. Hence, we have decided to relax the norms and a meeting will be held shortly to remove all the hurdles for smoothening the process."
Fadnavis has also authorised the civic body to decide the cost for legalising unregularised constructions.
The state government had announced a scheme in October 2017 to legalise unauthorised constructions in Pimpri-Chinchwad which were built before December 2015 under the Maharashtra Town Planning (Combined Structure) Rules 2017 Act.
In the manual, there is a clear set of rules on how unauthorised constructions were to be authorised, or not. Accordingly, the government had declared that unauthorised constructions along rivers, canals, flood zones, red zones, historical areas, garbage depots and hilly terrains, will not be authorised. The terms in the manual were very ambiguous. Therefore, many residents chose to not respond and not regularise their constructions.
Meanwhile, after the foundation stone laying ceremony of the memorial building for Chapekar brothers at Chinchwad, Fadnavis, said,"The revolutionary Chapekar brothers had ignited the flame of patriotism in our lives. Their sacrifice must be valued. We will always remember their sacrifice for our country. Now that we have independence, we need to start fighting for surajya (good state)."
PCMC and Krantiveer Chapekar memorial committee are constructing a six-storey memorial in Chinchwad in honour of the contributions of the revolutionary Chapekar brothers in the country’s freedom struggle.
