Convocation of Cusrow Wadia, Pune: Acquiring soft skills a boon for engineers, says Surve
The 29th convocation of the Cusrow Wadia Institute of Technical Education (CWIT) was held on its premises on Saturday.

This year 424 students were presented with their degrees. Ninety students received awards and 24 students were awarded with gold medals. Thirty-six merit students were also felicitated. Among the gold medallists, Sania Shaikh from Electronics won five gold medals, followed by Vispie Karkariya who won four gold medals for the Mechanical stream, while Sarthak Wani won five gold medals for the Electrical stream.
Avinash Surve, executive director, Vidarbha irrigation development corporation, Nagpur, was the chief guest. VR Rao, principal, Cusrow Wadia Institute of Technical Education; AS Chandak, chief operating officer, Modern Education Society and AJ Hake, chief financial officer, Modern Education Society, were also present for the function.
During his speech, Surve spoke to the students about looking beyond education and also learning life skills which will be important when they are out in the world pursuing their dreams. He said, “The last decade has seen a global change and although we say that there are less number of jobs, it is not so, we have got more colleges than jobs and hence, it seems to be like that, but everyone will get an opportunity to grow, develop and strive in the industry.”
Citing his experiences of working with an intersection of societies from farmers to bureaucrats, he stressed upon the knowledge for adapting and surviving in any society. He said, “Acquiring soft skills and an additional foreign language can be a boon for any engineer and it will upgrade his stature. Everyone should be ready to relocate and be adjustable in any environment, which will make the job more interesting.”
