Guardian Minister Girish Bapat has instructed Pune’s Metro officials and the planners of the Shiv Shrusti memorial to try to integrate the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj memorial at the Kothrud Metro depot. He has now asked for a design for the same to be drawn up.

Guardian minister Bapat called the meeting with Maha Metro officials, PMC office bearers, and concerned officials in Mumbai on Tuesday evening.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had reserved the Kothrud garbage depot site for the Shivaji Maharaj memorial, which is to be called the ‘Shiv Shrusti’.

At the same time, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has suggested the same land be used for the Metro depot.

The ruling party of the PMC, the BJP, and the civic administration is of the view that it is impossible to shift the Metro depot, as it cannot be detached from the corridor on which the Metro line runs.

Mayor Mukta Tilak, standing committee chairman Murlidhar Mohol, municipal commissioner Kunal Kumar, Metro planner Nitin Desai and Mahametro officals were present for the meeting.

Bapat suggested the all agencies sit together and try to integrate the projects.

PMC’s view is to erect both as mega projects. However, if integration is not possible, then the PMC and the state government would try to identify another plot for the Shiv Shrusti memorial.
