Dismembered half-burnt body of woman found in Pune’s Lohegaon

Investigating officials said that the body was found around 10am on Friday and sent to Sassoon General Hospital for medical and forensic examination. The police suspect that the murder could have taken place on Thursday.

“The victim’s body was dismembered from the middle and her right leg was also found at a distance from her torso. Alphabets A and B are the word Ayodhya were found engraved near her left thumb and right hand respectively,” said Sanjay B Naik Patil, police inspector (PI), Vimannagar police station.

The Vimannagar police said that the matter was brought to their notice by one Sunil Khandve, a resident of Lohegaon, who alerted the police after he found the body parts of the victim in the survey number 109 area.

PI Patil said that the body was set on fire in order to destroy evidence. A case under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered in connection with the incident.

The police officer has appealed to citizens to inform the authorities of any details regarding the crime at 020-26633888.

Pune The Paud police have recovered the body of a 42-year-old man near Bapu Buvaji temple in Paud on Friday morning. A rural police patrol reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem after being alerted by a passer-by. According to the police officials, the deceased has been identified as Atul Mahadeo Raut, a resident of Wisdom Park, Pimpri. Suresh Nimbalkar, senior police inspector of Paud road police station said that the body was found around 6.30 am.

“We have registered a case of accidental death as preliminary probe is still on. Prima facie it seems to be a case of suicide and we have found spurious medicine bottles and a cutter from the spot. We are finding out more details from his family and acquaintances.”
