Elgar Parishad case: Accused hatched conspiracy to further Maoist cause

Ujjwala Pawar, district government pleader of Pune, responded to the bail application of Rona Wilson and Varavara Rao, two of the several people accused in the Elgar Parishad case, in a Pune court on Wednesday.
While her argument is yet to conclude, Pawar read out various letters written by the two activists and other accused, that she claims hints towards a collectively hatched conspiracy to further the Maoist cause and carry out terrorist activities.
She invoked the Hindi protest poetry printed on the pamphlets which were distributed during Elgar Parishad on December 31, 2017. While referring to the protest poetry, she said, “These are seditious words.”
She produced a letter with the alleged letterhead of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) - a banned organisation - addressed to Surendra Gadling, a lawyer and an activist. While holding a letter with the CPI(M) credentials on it, seized from Gadling’s possession during his arrest, Pawar said, “This judicial activist, who is representing Sai Baba in the court, is, therefore, an active member of the banned terrorist organisation.”
Rao, a poet from Telangana, was smuggling and providing funds to channel weapons from places like Manipur and Nepal, according to letters read by Pawar. One of the letters regarding maps of places in Maharashtra was found in the electronic data seized from Rona Wilson and Galding’s possession, she told the court.
The hearing was in the court of special judge KD Vadane.
