The Pimpri police have booked a former Samajwadi Party (SP) legislator’s son from Uttar Pradesh (UP) for allegedly duping the government by not paying Goods and Service Tax (GST) to the tune of ₹24.81 lakh.

The first information report (FIR) has been registered against Dharmendra alias Bablu Brijlal Sonkar (45), a resident of A Wing, Waghere Park near Kirti Hospital in Pimpri.The complaint was lodged by Prakash Kulkarni (41), a resident of Pimpale Nilakh.

According to the complaint, between April 1, 2012 and August 4, 2018, Sonkar worked as a government trustee and agent and collected ₹24.81 lakh worth of GST. He deliberately did not deposit the GST amount in the government account. Meanwhile, IPC Sections 406 and 420 and Maharashtra GST Act 2002 mandated section 48 (5) and 74 (2) related sections have been invoked against the accused.

Bablu Sonkar is a criminal on record according to the Pimpri police and used to sport a beacon on his car claiming that he was a member of a central government committee, police said. His father had served as a minister during the previous government. Pimpri police station in-charge Vijay Kumar Kubade said investigations are on.
