Suvendra Gandhi held a meeting on Sunday with his father’s loyalists and declared that he will now contest independently from Ahmednagar

Not all seems to be well in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Ahmednagar, as Suvendra Gandhi has opposed the BJP after his father Dilipkumar Gandhi who was the sitting MP for three terms was denied a ticket by the BJP.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has given the Ahmednagar ticket to Sujay Vikhe-Patil who resigned from the Congress and entered the Saffron fold.

Suvendra Gandhi held a meeting on Sunday with his father’s loyalists and declared that he will now contest independently from Ahmednagar. Dilipkumar Gandhi, however, dodged the questions about his son’s candidature. He said, “I am with the BJP and have started campaigning for the BJP candidate. I will counsel Suvendra.”

The Lok Sabha polls for north Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar seat will be a battle between three young turks - Sujay Vikhe Patil, who is the candidate from the BJP; Suvendra Gandhi, who will be contesting independently; and MLA Sangram Jagtap who is the candidate from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Trouble for BJP in Shirdi

Bhausaheb Wakchaure, former Shirdi MP from BJP said that he will now contest independently as the public is unhappy with the candidate choice of the Shiv Sena and the Congress. The Shiv Sena has repeated its MP Sadashiv Lokhande as the party candidate for the seat and the Congress have announced Bhausaheb Kamble as its candidate. With Wakchaure’s declaration, Shirdi would witness a triangular fight.
