New divisional commissioner pushes for digitising 7/12 extracts
The 7/12 extract is a part of the land ownership register maintained by the state’s revenue department which includes the plot’s survey number, the name of the owner, its cultivator, the type of cultivation, transfer of ownership and other details.
While chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has initiated an ambitious project of making available the 7/12 extract online, the three districts from Western Maharashtra, however, lag behind. According to Deepak Mhaisekar, the newly-appointed divisional commissioner who took charge on Wednesday, Pune, Satara and Kolhapur have been behind the rest of the region in making 7/12 extract available online due to various issues related to connectivity.
“After taking charge today, I have taken the information and found that Pune, Satara and Kolhapur are far behind,” said Mhaisekar, who has been transferred here as the additional divisional commissioner with additional charge as divisional commissioner.
According to Mhaisekar, Pune has seen 66 per cent 7/12 extracts going online, while Satara and Kolhapur have seen 68.89 per cent and 50.07 per cent respectively. “There is still some issue with respect to the server. Other issues have been resolved,” said Mhaisekar.

An essential document, it establishes clear title and ownership and is used widely for all rural and semi-rural land deals.
After taking charge, Mhaisekar said his priority will be to implement government’s flagship programme, such as Swachh Bharat. Mhaisekar, who was chairman at Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) and Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA), was transferred to Pune last week.
