Nigerian national arrested with cocaine worth ₹7 lakh in Pune

A Nigerian national was arrested from an area near Salisbury Park society in Pune in possession of cocaine worth over ₹7 lakh on Saturday night. The man was identified as Anthony Maxwell, 35, a native of Nigeria and a resident of an area near Mantri Estate building close to Salisbury Park.
Based on his passport, head constable Shailesh Jagtap of the Lashkar police station, who found the intel, said that his name is Uguchuku Emanuel (who was known as Anthony Maxwell in the area).
Jagtap told the anti-narcotic cell about the narcotic substance in the 35-year-old man's possession. The anti-narcotics cell, supervised by Jyotipriya Singh, deputy commissioner of police, economic offences wing (EOW) and cyber crime, made the arrest.
Anthony was found in possession of 58.5 gram cocaine, a digital weighing machine and cash, collectively worth ₹7,38,000, according to the police.
"He was remanded in four days police custody (by a local court). We will investigate the matter further," said police sub-inspector (PIS) Rajesh Usgaonkar of the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station who is investigating the case. Police inspector Sunil Dorge of the anti-narcotics cell made the arrest and handed over the case to the Swargate police station.A case under Sections 8(c) and 22 (b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, was registered at the Swargate police station.
