Pune police arrest four men in raid at gambling den in Wanowrie

Sustained protests by Wanowrie residents, followed by a meeting with police commissioner Rashmi Shukla, led to police action on a gambling den operating in the Wanowrie bazaar recently.
Four persons were booked in connection with the case. The suspects have been booked under the relevant sections of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act. The FIR was lodged against the accused by Police Naik Sandeep Tikone. The action was taken after local residents took up the matter with Pune police commissioner Rashmi Shukla, who ordered swift action in connection with the case.
According to the police, the gambling den was located at house no 115 in Wanowrie bazaar. A team of police officials, under the guidance of senior police inspector Sayaji Gaware, raided the house and registered a case against Sanghraj Uttam Waghmare (56) and Akash Sanghraj Waghmare (24), both residents of house no. 115 in Wanowrie bazaar; Amit Vijay Kamble of house no 23, Wanowrie bazaar, and Qamruddin Qureshi, who is the brother of notorious history sheeter, Moinuddin Qureshi.
Police officials said that the gambling centre had been in operation for several months on a commission basis and was headed by Qamruddin.
