Pune police inspector robbed, shot at near Yavat

A police official was allegedly shot at and robbed of his car, mobile phone and other belongings by a gang of highway robbers near Yavat, around 50-km from city on the Pune-Solapur Highway on Monday, said a police official.
Mahesh Nilganji, police inspector who is posted at State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) police training centre at Nanvij near Daund, was injured in the attack after he was assaulted with an iron rod and was shot at in the right leg by the unidentified robbers on Monday morning when he was on his way to office, said officials from Pune rural police.
A police officer, attached to Yavat police station, said that the incident took place when Nilganji was on his way to the SRPF training centre.
“Nilganji was on his way to SRPF training centre in his car when another vehicle came from behind and one of the passengers from that car asked Nilganji that the his car has a flat tyre. Nilganji stopped his car after which he was pulled out of his car,” said the officer.
He added that the moment Nilganji got out of the car, the three people too emerged out of their car and attacked Nilganji with an iron rod.
“When Nilganji tried to put resistance, one of the three assailants took out a pistol and fired a round at Nilganji’s right leg and injured him. The assailants then fled away with his car,” he said.
Yavat police have registered a case under relevant sections of IPC and a manhunt has been launched to trace the robbers.
In a separate incident, a 21-year-old son of a woman constable was allegedly murdered by his friends at Nigdi on Monday. Aditya Jaid was taken to Kalbholnagar by his friends following which they beat him up, said officials. The Nigdi police said, they have detained one person in connection with Jaid’s murder.
