SPPU senate approves Rs 633 cr budget for 2019-20
After the motion of adjournment, under the chairmanship of Karmalkar, Rajesh Pandey, management council member, presented the university’s budget
The senate of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) approved a budget of Rs 633 crore for 2019- 2020, on Saturday.

The senate began at 11 am at Dynaneshwar hall, main building of the university. Nitin Karmalkar , vice-chancellor presented a report about the university.
After the motion of adjournment, under the chairmanship of Karmalkar, Rajesh Pandey, management council member, presented the university’s budget. NS Umraani, pro-vice-chancellor; Prafulla Pawar, registrar, and other members of the senate were present during the event.
The university’s budget in 2018-2019 was Rs 659 crore. The SPPU has planned to bring down the costs and hence this year the budget is less than Rs 26 crore, as compared to last year.
“The budget has made new provisions for a convocation hall, for which we have allotted Rs 3 crore, it will have a seating capacity of 3,000 people, “said Pandey.
“This will be a permanent fixture which will curtail the expense for erecting pandals and hiring furniture twice a year for convocation,” he said.
Pandey added that Rs 10 lakh has been allocated for reprinting of books published by Savitribai Phule Pune University which are out of print.
“There is good news for the postdoctoral students as we are allocating Rs 2 crore with a new postdoctoral fellowship,” he added.
The other highlights that Pandey stressed upon are the construction of various buildings within the university, which has been allotted a budget of Rs 53.37 crore, various schemes
for students of Rs 33.58 crore. While the student development board has been allotted Rs 13.16 crore, emergency management training has been allotted Rs 2 crore, while student insurance and emergency assistance has been allotted Rs 45 lakh and student soft skills programme has been allotted Rs 35 lakh.
