With the delay in the completion of the alternate road to Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park through Mhalunge-Maan area, close to two lakh people are likely to face traffic congestion on the roads leading to Hinjewadi for six more months .

The work for the proposed project has been jointly undertaken by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Maharashtra industrial development corporation (MIDC) and the public works department (PWD) of the state government.

Kiran Gitte, chief of PMRDA, said, “The process of land acquisition is causing a delay in the completion of the project. As of now, we have consent from close to 90 per cent of the people for the land acquisition. The work is on fast track.”

He added, “The entire work is being done in 3 phases. Also, the tender process for the 2.5 km stretch from Chande to Nande road is in the final stage. We aim to complete the entire project in the next six months.”

Girish Bapat, guardian minister had earlier assured that the work on the alternate road from Mhalunge-Maan area which directly connects to phase three of the IT Park will be completed before monsoon. However, the authorities have failed to walk the talk and the project is delayed by another six months.

Another PMRDA official on the condition of anonymity said, “All the agencies are simultaneously working on the project. As much as 90 per cent of the work for the flyover on the Shedge wadi to Hinjewadi road has been completed. However, only 40 per cent of the work for the fly over which runs from Shedge vasti has been completed. ”

Nidhi Meghawale, an IT employee, who works in a company in phase three of Hinjewadi IT Park said, “I am a resident of Viman nagar. It takes me a minimum of one and a half hours to cross the congested road. During monsoon season, the travelling time increases by an hour. The alternative road to phase three will really be helpful for lakhs of employees working at the Hinjewadi IT Park.”

The alternate road to the phase three of the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjewadi through Mhalunge Maan is expected to cut short the timing time by an hour reducing the traffic congestion.
