This decision was taken at a standing committee meeting of the PCMC held on Wednesday. Building permission is to be denied in Pimple Saudagar,Pimple Gurav, Ravet, Punawale, Kiwale,Tathawade and Wakad, among other areas, all within PCMC .

“Though the monsoon has begun, we have to save water till we get enough rainfall for this year. There is an increasing tendency to invest in housing projects.Recently, the civic body has given many project permissions in Wakad. To save water we have taken this decision,”said Mamata Gaikwad, chairman, standing committee.

However, there were mixed reactions among activists and residents in the industrial city. Many claimed there was no water scarcity in PCMC limits, but the problem was only maintaining proper pressure to the water supply. “If PCMC does not having enough water stock then how they are going to launch the 24x7 water scheme,” said one activist, who asked to remain anonymous.
