22-year-old killed, friend injured in car accident

A 22-year-old Ludhiana resident was killed, while his friend was injured, after the former's Maruti Alto car rammed into a truck from the rear side on the Chandigarh-Ludhiana highway on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Varun Dhawan. His friend, Sagar Chugh, 22, suffered multiple injuries and was admitted to a hospital in Ludhiana.

Police said the duo was returning from Chandigarh after celebrating the birthday of Dhawan, who ran a fitness centre in Ludhiana.

Major Singh of Khamano police station, said Dhawan and Chugh were returning from Chandigarh. When they reached near Khamano, they were unable to spot a truck that suddenly braked in the middle of the road. As a result they rammed into it. While Dhawan was killed on the spot, Chugh was seriously injured and rushed to a hospital.

The truck driver, who managed to flee the spot, has been booked for negligent driving.
