4 yrs after sanction of funds, bus stand road cries for repair
Despite the fact that the tender for the interlocking tiles at main bus stand at Khanna was passed four years ago, no work has been initiated so far by the contractor.
Not only this, the municipal council of Khanna has not been able to bring the contractor to book, even as travellers face inconvenience on a daily basis.
The road at the main bus stand has been lying damaged due to accumulation of water since 2008. But has failed to wake up the civic body. Surprisingly, Rs 10 lakh were sanctioned after a resolution was passed in the MC on October 10, 2008, to repair the road.
A tender was cleared on June 30, 2009, and further the contract was given to VK Jain contractor on July 3, 2009, to install interlocking tiles on the road.
However, sources said no repair work was carried out, adding that the money received was utilised in other works in other areas.
PD Bansal, president, Lok Sewa Club, Khanna, said, "Just passing a resolution is not development. It is really shocking that Rs 10 lakh sanctioned for the bus stand compound road was utilised for other purposes, even when its deplorable condition is a major problem for public."
Bansal added that the authorities were now refusing to renovate the bus stand compound road, citing shortage of funds. "It is still a mystery that for what purpose the sanctioned money for bus stand was utilised," Bansal said.
Charanjit Singh, executive officer of Khanna municipal council, admitted that the funds intended for bus stand Khanna might have been used somewhere else. "Notice was served to the contractor for not completing the work in 2009. However, repair work has so far not been initiated," Singh said.
