A five-year old boy was killed after a speeding SUV hit him near Parshuram Bhawan in Sector 12A in Panchkula on Tuesday.
Police said the deceased, identified as Deepak, resident of Dhakoli, had gone with his cousins Aatma, 13, and Ravi, 9, to Sector 12A to hand over lunch to his uncle Vidya Sagar, 35, a daily wager.
“I was working at a house in Sector 12A. After lunch, we all started walking back home. On the way, a rashly driven Renault Duster coming from Amartex roundabout hit Deepak and fled the spot,” Sagar told the police.
Police said the victim’s uncle noted down the SUV’s registration number, and took Deepak in a passers-by car to the civil hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
On the complaint of the victim’s father Ram Prashad and uncle, police have registered a case of rash driving and causing death by negligence and initiated a probe to trace the car and its driver.
