Members of the Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday held a 'jhadoo' (broom) rally here, starting from Shimla Road and covering various parts of the town, before ending near Delhi Gate bus stop.
AAP convenor Desraj Sharma said the campaign was launched to highlight various issues related to the state, and more such rallies would be held at the district headquarters.
“During the rallies, we will highlight the issues of monkey menace, scarcity of drinking water and providing free electricity meters, among others,” he added.
AAP state general secretary BR Kaundal said the practice of government employees joining political parties should be ended, and added that adequate compensation be given to the oustees of hydel projects.
Jhadoo rally, sans jhadoos
Interestingly, when the jhadoo rally began in the morning, AAP workers were not seen carrying any brooms, which are the party symbol. However, they had got the brooms by evening, when the rally ended. A source said brooms, which earlier used to cost up to `60, were now available for `80.
