The Haryana unit of Aam Aadmi Party on Friday condemned what it termed “highly irresponsible and regressive statement” made on women by the Hindu Mahasabha, Haryana, linking jeans and mobile phones with growing incidents of rape.
Referring to a recent comment of the president of Haryana unit of Hindu Mahasabha that jeans and tops should be banned as it caused women getting raped, the AAP also took an objection to his further remark that in order to reduce the number of rape cases, women should be prohibited from keeping mobile phones and that girls themselves were responsible for crimes like rape by wearing provocative dresses and having mobiles.
AAP spokesperson Rajiv Godara said in a release that his party strongly objected to such disturbing developments in Haryana even as new Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar had expressed his thoughts on women and rape incidents on similar lines recently. The people of Haryana had given a mandate to the BJP with a hope that the new government would get rid of the system of previous government. The AAP demanded that Khattar himself should condemn such statement.
