Absconding Dera head accused of rape nabbed in Ludhiana

Police on Sunday arrested rape accused Dera Gobindpuri head Sarup Hari from Ludhiana railway station. As per the police, Hari had returned from Madhya Pradesh and was planning another hideout in Ludhiana when he was nabbed. He was produced in a local court on Monday that sent him to police custody.

A Class-9 student of the school running in dera premises had complained that the dera head had called her to his room and tried to outrage her modesty. The sewadar who had sent her to the room was arrested the same day but Sarup Hari was successful in giving a slip.

The incident had sent shock waves in the area and people had held several demonstrations demanding dera head's arrest. The school has since been shut down and students admitted to other nearby schools.
