Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal advocated for a strong Indo-Pak trade ties, hoping that the ongoing seventh edition of the Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX-2013) would give a further momentum to the efforts already being made in this regard from both the sides.

Inaugurating the PITEX here on Friday, Sukhbir said the open trade between India and Pakistan through land route was the need of the hour. He pointed out that the Punjab government was keen over opening up of the international border for boosting trade and tourism between the two neighbours.
He further said the Punjab government had allotted 10 acres near Rajasansi International Airport for holding of an international trade expos on lines of the PITEX.
He said talks could reduce aggression and friction between the two nations; Iran and the US were a living example of it.
He hoped that the Indo-Pak talks would definitely achieve the desired results that would be in the interest of the citizens of the two nations.
The deputy CM further said the ensuing visit of Pakistani Punjab's chief minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif would also play a vital role in resolving various international issues.
Reiterating his resolve to develop a food street on the pattern of Lahore, Sukhbir said the process was initiated and the people of Amritsar would get a similar food street in a year.
Accompanied by Punjab industries minister Anil Joshi, chief parliamentary secretary Inderbir Singh Bolaria and deputy commissioner Ravi Bhagat, the deputy CM visited different stalls at the international pavilion and bought a 'Punjabi jutti' from a Pakistani stall.
He also interacted with representatives of the seven industrial chambers of Pakistan and discussed issues pertaining to trade and commerce.
