The Chandigarh district court on Thursday rejected the bail plea of Ashish Kumar, co-accused in the alleged stalking and kidnapping bid case of Chandigarh-based DJ Varnika Kundu, a local disc jockey and daughter of Haryana cadre IAS officer VS Kundu.

This comes as a major development, as last Thursday, co-accused Vikas Barala, son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala, was granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana high court.

The defence counsel was expecting that Ashish too will be granted bail since the HC had directed that the accused’s bail would be taken up once the cross-examination of the complainant was over.
