City chess players win North Zone championship

In the CBSE North Zone -II Chess Championship, which was held at Himland Public School, Sangrur, from October 8 to October 11, city boys have clinched first spot and qualified for the national chess championship to be held in Amritsar.

In the CBSE North Zone -II Chess Championship, which was held at Himland Public School, Sangrur, from October 8 to October 11, city boys have clinched first spot and qualified for the national chess championship to be held in Amritsar.

In the under-19 boys category, Dilbagh Singh, Samyak Jain, Paras Narang, Madhur, Gaurav Sood, all students of Green Land Senior Secondary Public School, bagged the first place.

In the first round, Green Land Senior Secondary Public School, Jalandhar Bye Pass, defeated Ganga International School, Khannauri and in the second round, Green Land Senior Secondary Public School beat Bright Scholar Senior Secondary Public School, Haryana.

Winning rounds one after the other, Green Land School match against Bhavan's SL Public School, Amritsar, was a draw, thus paving their way for the nationals on the basis of points.

Chairman and director of the chain of Green Land Schools Rajesh Rudhra and principal Baldeep Pandher congratulated the students and their coach PK Ahmed for their performance.
