Cong misleading people on land acquisition bill, says Dhumal
Former chief minister and leader of Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Prem Kumar Dhumal on Monday accused Congress of misleading people on land acquisition bill.
Dhumal said the Congress party had lost its political ground after the Lok Sabha elections and in order to regain its position, it was misleading people with wrong facts. "BJP led central government has made some necessary changes in the bill, while most of it is same as passed by previous Congress led government," he said, in a press statement issued here on Monday.
He said the Centre had sought suggestions for amending the bill. "Where were all these so called pro-farmers when the government had sought suggestions for amending the bill," he asked.
Dhumal also blamed Congress for adding little anti-farmer provision in the bill. "All mistakes in the bill passed by the Congress-led government were corrected by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government," Dhumal added. He also claimed that it was only due to Modi's intervention that compensation amount was increased four times and it had also been mandated to provide employment to the affected families.
Dhumal also said as per the amended bill, land would not be acquired for industrial corridor upto 1 km from highway or railway line. He said Congress was opposing the amendment as they wanted to halt developmental activities across the country and the state. "Congress should understand one thing that without passing this bill, development is not possible in the state," he added.
