Congress takes BJP’s Amritsar ground
The BJP may have postponed its anti-drug rally, but the opposition Congress is all set to make its ‘Lalkar’ rally a crowd-pulling event that will showcase the popularity of Amritsar MP Capt Amarinder Singh among the people of Punjab and send a clear message not only to the SAD-BJP alliance but also to the Congress high command.

The Congress decided to hold its rally at Ranjit Avenue ground, the venue chosen by the BJP. The BJP had got the area barricaded and even erected shamianas on parts of this ground.
The importance that the Punjab Congress is attaching to the January 22 rally to be held in the holy city can be gauged from the meetings of senior Congress leaders over the last two days.
Kapurthala Congress MLA Rana Gurjit Singh chaired the meeting that finalised the venue. Rana has been appointed the convener for the event.
