Ward 8 councillor Daljeet Singh Grewal has been appointed the president of the Ludhiana City unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The councillor, commonly known as Bhola Grewal, took over the charge of the newly-created position at the party office in Ludhiana on Saturday evening.
Earlier, the party affairs in the city were being managed by zonal coordinator Suresh Goyal.
Grewal, who joined the party a year ago, expressed his gratitude to the party’s senior leaders, including national convener Arvind Kejriwal, state president Bhagwant Mann and state co-president Aman Arora, for reposing faith in him for this responsibility.
Promising to strive hard to fulfil the expectations of the party leadership, Grewal also assured the party volunteers of giving them due respect and taking them along in implementing the policies and programmes of the party.
On the occasion, he called upon the volunteers to take up the public issues strongly.
Grewal claimed that the Congress government in the state had failed completely on all fronts, leaving the electorate disappointed. “AAP is the only alternative for the people in Punjab. We will contest the upcoming municipal corporation elections in Ludhiana and secure majority in the House,” he claimed, adding that the party will continue to raise voice against the mafias in the state, as their fight was against corruption.
While hailing the services of zonal coordinator Suresh Goyal, state general secretary Ahbaab Grewal, state media team member Darshan Singh Shankar and others congratulated Grewal and assured him of their support.
Notably, Grewal, who has won the Ludhiana MC elections as an independent candidate twice, had contested the 2017 Assembly elections from Ludhiana East constituency, but had lost to Congress leader Sanjay Talwar by 1,581 votes.
