Death of girl child: Two Bathinda cops suspended

The child had died during treatment at a private hospital in Bathinda on Thursday. Her family alleged that she died as she fell down and suffered injuries in the melee when the cops had come to arrest three women accused of extortion, including the girl’s mother Asha Rani, on July 20.

Two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) of Punjab Police have been suspended in connection with the death of a one-month-old girl allegedly after suffering injuries in a melee when the cops went to arrest three women accused of extortion in Talwandi Sabo recently.

“ASIs Kulwinder Singh and Sukhpal Singh,, posted at Talwandi Sabo police station, have been suspended while home guard jawan Gurmej Singh has been transferred to the police lines,” said Talwandi Sabo DSP Barinder Singh.

Earlier, the victim’s family met police officials in Bathinda demanding action against the cops.

The family had alleged that the women were booked in a false case on the complaint of Tarsem Kumar, husband of a Congress councillor in Talwandi Sabo municipal council (MC).
