Senior BJP leader Prem Kumar Dhumal on Sunday hailed the role of women in taking the nation forward, stating that the women empowerment drive by the previous BJP government in the state had shown good dividends, enabling women to take lead in every field of life.
Now, women from the state had won laurels at the national and international level in fields of science and medicines, he said.
While addressing a function organised by Prayas, a social organisation, Dhumal said the women had to play a major role in changing the society.
He pointed out that the women in the state had performed yeoman's role in the panchayati raj institutions, where they had been given 50% reservations by his government.
He said time had come when the women should head other organisations, too, and stand on their feet.
The BJP leader said the self-help groups set up by the women during the BJP rule had proved successful and the women were making full use of the money earned from the groups.
He gave a clarion call to the women to come forward and join the BJP for their benefits and welfare. He said the BJP was people-friendly whereas the Congress had done nothing for them.
He told the women that if they committed a mistake by voting the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections, the nation would be doomed and people would be responsible for the act committed by them.
While lamenting the state government for its failure to help the people, he said the people were facing shortages of food grains and other essential items through the public distribution system, the Congress leaders were busy in merry making as is if they had no love and affection for the people.
Dhumal said the party had already named Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate, which had broken the backbone of the Congress. The Congress party that was going to announce the name of Rahul Gandhi as its prime ministerial candidate faltered at the last moment and was now saying that it was the decision of Rahul that not to name him for the top post.
On the occasion, he honored a number of women and mahila mandals, who had presented colorful cultural programmes.
