Even as the biometric system of attendance for government employees is at a nascent stage, cops are facing a hard time travelling to the spots where the machines have been installed from their areas of deployment.
Though the system was made compulsory around two weeks back, it is yet to be properly implemented. The department has installed only five machines against 3,000 cops in the district which forces many to travel long distances from police stations and posts.
Police officials claimed most of their time will be lost marking attendance. If the department really wanted to implement biometric attendance, they should have installed machines at every station and post, they added.
Cops handling clerical work said they were visiting office to mark attendance even if they were going to the Punjab and Haryana high court and travel extra miles just for that.
